Lección 1
 
Situación 1
You have just met your roommate and you ask questions to find out what he/she is like
 
Rol A  1.  Ask how he/she is doing
2.  Ask his/her name
3.  Ask where your roommate is from
4.  Ask what your roommate studies
 
Rol B  1.  Say that you are fine
2.  Give your name
3.  Tell him where you are from
4.  Tell what you are studying at the university and, specifically, the classes you are taking
 
Situación 2
You are in the bookstore because you need to buy a tape recorder to listen to your Spanish lab cassettes.  You are speaking with an employee.
 
Rol A  1.  Ask the employee where the tape recorders are
2.  Ask how much the tape recorder you want costs
3.  Say that you also need a cassette
 
Rol B  1.  Tell the student that the tape recorders are next to the cassettes.
2.  Say that the tape recorder costs $25
3.  Say that the cassettes only cost $1

You are talking to a friend about his/her boy/girlfriend/best friend

You are playing a guessing game in class, and you ask your partner questions to find out who his/her favorite actor/actress is

Lección 3
 
Situación 1
You are in a restaurant with friends and are ordering food from the waiter/waitress
 
Rol A  1.  Tell the waiter/waitress that you are on a diet, and ask what you should eat
2.  Say that you wish to eat the fish plate
3.  Say that you would like vegetables, also
4.  Say that you would like a glass of water
 
Rol B  1.  Tell the customer that, for the main course, he/she should eat fish
2.  Ask what he/she wishes to eat with the fish
3.  Ask what he/she wishes to drink
 
Situación 2
You call your friend on the phone to see what he/she is going to do tomorrow
 
Rol A  1.  Answer the phone and say “hello”
2.  Say that you are going to the beach (la playa) to swim and sunbathe
3.  Tell him/her that you shouldn’t go because you are going to study in the       evening
4.  Say good-bye
 
Rol B  1.  Identify yourself and ask what he/she is going to do (ir + a + hacer) tomorrow
2.  Tell him/her that you are going to the movies at 7:00 and ask if your friend       wishes to go with you
3.  Tell him that you agree–he/she should study, and say good-bye

            3.     Ask how old his/her brothers and sisters are
 
Rol B  1.  Give the number of people in your family
            2.     Tell what your parents do for a living
            3.     Give the ages of your brothers and sisters
 


Situación 2
You are talking with a friend about his/her favorite relative
 
Rol A  1.  Ask who your friend’s favorite relative is
2.  Ask why
3.  Find out when he/she plans to see this relative again and what they will do together
 
Rol B  1.  Tell who your favorite relative is
2.  Explain why you like this relative so much
3.  Say when you will see this relative again and tell what you plan to do together
 
Lección 5
 
Situación 1
You and a friend would like to rent a house next year, and you speak with the owner on the phone.
 
Rol A  1.  Ask where the house is located
2.  Ask how many bedrooms there are in the house
3.  Ask if the house has air conditioning
4.  Ask who cuts the grass–you or the landlord
 
Rol B  1.  Say that the house is close to the university
2.  Tell how many bedrooms there are in the house
3.  Say that the house does have air conditioning
4.  Say that you normally cut the grass
 
Situación 2
You are speaking with a friend who asks you questions about how you and your roommate divide up the household chores
 
Rol A  1.  Ask when they clean the house
2.  Ask who cleans the kitchen
3.  Ask if they have a dishwasher, a microwave, and a vacuum cleaner
4.  Ask what your friend does
 
Rol B  1.  Say that you clean the house every Saturday
2.  Say that your roommate cleans the kitchen
3.  Tell your friend that you don’t have a dishwasher, but your roommate washes the dishes.  You don’t have a microwave, either, but you do have a vacuum cleaner.
4.  Say that you clean the bathroom and vacuum the rooms

Lección 6

Situación 1

You and a friend are shopping at a clothing store.

 

Rol A  1.  Ask your friend what he/she is going to buy
2.  Ask your friend if he/she likes the article you have chosen
3.  Give the price of the article
4.  Say that you don’t have enough money and are going to use your credit card

 
Rol B  1.  Tell your friend what you want to buy
2.  Say that you like the article he/she has chosen, and ask how much it costs
3.  Ask how he/she is going to pay for the article


Situación 2

You are at a clothing store and are talking with the employee

 
Rol A  1.  Ask if there are any leather jackets, and in what colors
2.  Say that you would like to put one on, and ask if it fits you
3.  Tell the employee that you like it but you are not sure if you want to pay so
much money

Rol B  1.  Say that there are a lot of brown and black leather jackets, and ask if he/she
would like to put one on
2.  Tell the customer that it fits him/her well, and ask if he/she would like to buy it
