Situación 1
You are talking on the phone with a friend from a different city.
Rol A
1. Ask your friend what the weather is like in the city where he/she lives and in
another season of your choice
2. Ask him/her what he /she does when it rains and when it is hot
3. Tell your friend that the weather is nice where you and, and what you are going
to do outside
Rol B
1. Tell him/her that now it is cloudy and is going to rain. Describe the weather in
the seasons you were asked
2. Tell your friend that you don’t leave your apartment, and you use the time to
study
Situación 2
You are talking with a friend about a sporting event and invite him/her to go with you
Rol A
1. Ask your friend what sports he/she likes
2. Tell him/her that there is a basketball game tomorrow, and invite him/her to go
3. Give the time of the game and the cost of the tickets
Rol B
1. Tell your friend the sports you play
2. Ask him/her what time the game is and how much the tickets cost

Situación 1
You and a friend are talking about your plans for Christmas break. (Hanukkah or another holiday may be substituted here.)
Rol A
1. Ask your friend what he/she is going to do for Christmas break
2. Ask what your friend’s family normally does for Christmas
3. Describe what your family traditionally does for Christmas
Rol B 1. Tell him/her your plans for break
2. Describe two or three things that your family traditionally does, and ask your
friend about his/her family’s traditions
Situación 2
You and your roommate are talking about your Halloween plans
Rol A
1. Tell your roommate that a friend is having a party for Halloween, and ask if
he/she plans to go
2. Suggest something that your roommate could dress up as for the party
3. Say what you are going to be
Rol B 1. Say that you do plan to go, but you don’t know what to wear as a costume.
2. Tell your friend that you like the idea, and ask what he/she is going to be for
the party
Lección 9
Situación 1
You are looking for a job, and you speak with a representative from an employment agency.
Rol A
1. Tell the agent that you are looking for a job.
2. Tell the agent the job you would like
3. Describe the experience you have
4. Tell the agent that you will return tomorrow for the interview.
Rol B
1. Ask the client what type of job he/she is looking for.
2. Tell the client that you can help, and ask if he/she can return tomorrow at 2:00
for an interview with your boss
3. Ask what kind of experience the client has
Situación 2
You are filling out a résumé, and you call a professor to see if he/she will write a letter of recommendation for you.
Rol A
1. Tell your professor that you are looking for a job, and ask if he/she will write the letter for you
2. Tell your professor the job for which you are applying
3. Tell your professor to include his/her thoughts on your work habits and
performance in class.
Rol B
1. Tell your student that you will write the letter of recommendation, and ask
what type of job it is
2. Ask the student what you should include in the letter
3. Tell your students that you will write the letter over the weekend.
Lección 10
Situación 1
Your roommate calls to invite you to dinner, and asks you to stop by the store for a few items.
Rol A
1. Invite your friend to dinner this evening
2. Say what time you will eat, and ask if your friend can stop by the store for you.
3. Tell your friend to please buy spinach and tomatoes for the salad you are
making.
Rol B
1. Accept the invitation, and ask at what time you are going to eat.
2. Say that you can stop by the store, and ask what you should buy
Situación 2
You and your roommate are cooking dinner together.
Rol A
1. Ask you roommate what you should do
2. Ask your roommate what you should put in the salad
Rol B
1. Tell your roommate to first set the table, and then to prepare the salad
2. Name at least four ingredients for the salad.
Lección 11
Situación 1
You are not feeling well and you go to the doctor.
Rol A
1. Tell the doctor that you have been sick for three days
2. Tell the doctor that your head hurts, you have a cough and a fever
3. Tell him/her that you are only taking aspirin
Rol B
1. Find out what symptoms the patient has
2. Ask what medicine he/she has been taking
3. Say that he/she has the flu and should continue taking aspirin and resting
Situación 2
You stop by to visit a friend, and he/she looks sick
Rol A
1. Ask your friend what is wrong
2. Ask if he/she is going to go to the doctor
3. Tell your friend that he/she should go because the doctor can give him/her antibiotics to help him/her get better sooner
Rol B
1. Tell your friend that you have a chest cold
2. Say that you are not going to see a doctor because you don’t like doctors
3. Tell your friend that you prefer to take herbs (hierbas), but you will go to the doctor if you are not better in a few days
Lección 12
Situación 1
You are taking a trip for Spring Break and you go to a travel agency to buy a ticket.
Rol A
1. Tell the agent that you want a round trip ticket to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
2. Tell the agent the days on which you will leave and return
3. Tell the agent that you would like to purchase the ticket and ask how much it costs
Rol B
1. Ask the customer on what day he/she plans to leave and return
2. Say that there are two flights available, and they both have a layover in Miami
3. Tell the customer that the ticket costs $450
Situación 2
You have just returned from a trip to Spain and are passing through customs where the agent asks you questions.
Rol A
1. Ask the traveler where he/she is coming from and the purpose of the trip
2. Ask if the traveler is bringing any food into the country
3. Ask to see the traveler’s passport, and then tell him/her to proceed
Rol B
1. Tell the agent that you are returning from Spain where you were on vacation
2. Tell him that you are not bringing any food with you
3. Thank the agent before going on
